Myth & Marrow: A Narrative Literature Review

American capitalism is bound to the bodies of Black women. This fundamental connection is often obscured or deliberately erased from mainstream historical narratives. Myth & Marrow is a narrative literature review that serves as the scholarly foundation for our work, situating Black women’s labor across 250 years of nationhood.

It integrates archival research, body-mapping, and oral histories to reframe Black women’s labor as the unshakeable, devalued anchor of American capitalism.

The review insists that labor is not merely economic activity, but reproductive, logistical, cultural, somatic, and cognitive work that has sustained American capitalism and challenged systemic oppression.
